Beginning our Legacy Portrait Program was not my idea. It was something that arrived from the Spirit and was laid on my heart one day, while in Knoxville, doing daily life things. I can’t recall what triggered the idea, but I arrived home wanting to act on this challenge that had entered my heart.
God asks us to give of our gifts and talents. His purpose for the gift is that it might be shared and His Work might be done in it. Often, as believers we blindly move forward. We have had the opportunity to do many Legacy Portraits and each is special. We have been thanked in ways that are hard to explain. We know our portraits have been used at Celebrations of Life and for this we are happy.
The request for Darrell’s portrait came to us through our Legacy Portraits page online. Darrell was fighting cancer at the time.
This last week we have heard of Darrell’s passing with the kindest note from his daughter-in-law.
Hi Gary,
I wanted to write you a little update and send you some photos as well. As you may recall, I am Darrell Griffin’s daughter in law, Kendra. You took his legacy session of November or December of last year with his truck.
Darrell passed away on June 18th, 2019, after a hard battle of cancer. My husband and I are so thankful still for the session you done. Your photos was everywhere during the funeral service. The framed portrait you gave him was next to his casket. He looked at it every day in his living room. His obituary had the one you took standing by his truck. He truly loved his truck, lol.
But one of your portraits will be forever seen and enjoyed by everyone who sees it. Our little boys designed his headstone and picked the picture. We wanted you to see how your work will truly last forever. Gary, we cannot thank you enough for your kindness. It truly means so much to us still. I’m so thankful for the gift you gave us. Thank you again.
Many blessings & thanks,
Kendra Griffin
As I post this end result of this awesome connection with special people, my heart is stunned by how much it means to me and those of us here who bring the Legacy Portraits to our community. As it goes with giving, we feel we are the real recipients of such grace. We are certainly grateful for the opportunity to know this family and all that we meet as we create portrait art.
